Grant Recipients

The Foundation of Rotary Club of Mercer Island is dedicated to helping establish and support humanitarian, inter-cultural, and educational programs and activities that improve the human condition and advance Rotary's ultimate goal of world understanding and peace. Our funds come directly from club members, Mercer Island Rotary Half Marathon and our other fundraising activities, and matching grants provided by Rotary International and Rotary District 5030.

Each year, we support organizations and charities that have demonstrated their ability to achieve effective results and make a difference in the lives of the people they serve. Over the past 10 years, we have provided funding and volunteer support at the regional and local levels to over 70 organizations, devoted to improving the health, education and welfare of people in our communities. Internationally, we focus on projects where we can establish partnerships with committed people who are “on the ground.” Last year, we created and funded a program that raised over $11,000 to send wheelchairs to people in need of them most in the Cities of Guatemala City and Antigua, Guatemala. This year, we are developing a project that will fund the development of check dams in the City of Akola, India.

Over the past three years, some of the organizations and campaigns receiving financial support from our foundation have included the following: Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary Safe Water Projects, Rotary First Harvest, Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign, Special Olympics, Habitat International, Wheelchair Foundation, Computers for Uganda, and World Literacy in Action.
